I recently spoke on how we just acquired a new car and I was in the process of deciding what to do with my old one.
Well, I finally decided. Two weeks ago, I donated my car, Erin, aka the Midge, to ALZ.org.
There were many car donation companies I could’ve chosen from and I had my share to pick. I chose Alzheimer’s research for a reason – my Granny (maternal side) was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s back in 1995. She would eventually succumb to the disease in 2000.
Upon some family research (and my own history), I am predisposed to eventually getting Alzheimer’s since I recently found out I carry the gene for it. There is no cure but with diet and exercise, I can delay it.
I don’t know if there’ll be a cure for Alzheimer’s in my lifetime, but here’s hoping there will be in Bear’s lifetime or his children’s lifetime.
Donating the car was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. I was pretty emotional. Honestly, I think the reaction would’ve been the same if I sold the car. I’ve had the car for 11 years. I never had any intention of getting rid of it, but fixing it up and driving it again. Then we got Champagne and well, there was no need to have two cars.
So to my car, Erin, I hope the next owner enjoys you forever and gives you the proper love and attention.
